Join George Thatcher for a walk on the beach.
Experience vicariously the gentle breeze, the lilting birds, the lapping waves, the ever-changing life on the seashore. In this unique collection of beach observations written over the last ten years and published in his daily column in the Sun Herald (Biloxi) from 1997 to 2008, the author invites readers to accompany him on daily walks to contemplate the inspirational imagery of sea and shore.
The BEACH WALKS SERIES are collections of Thatcher’s daily columns in the Sun Herald, a newspaper covering south Mississippi. The column titled “Scenes from the Beach,” is an account of the writer’s daily beach walks. A Decade of Beach Walks compiles the poignant recordings of Thatcher’s daily shoreline walks revealing the beauty of the beach and the creatures that live there. These remarkable reflections of serene contemplation live on in your mind even when the moment itself is gone.
Stan Tiner, Editor of the Sun Herald, says, “George Thatcher is the unofficial poet laureate of Coastal Mississippi. His daily dispatches provide witness to the incredible life and beauty on these tranquil shores. His eye for detail allows all of us to see miracles of the mundane, small scenes beneath the microscope of a writer’s lens, painted in spare and eloquent prose. The result is a treat for his readers who may have gone too long without the joy of sand between their toes.”
A Decade of Beach Walks is the fourth in the series by author George Thatcher, whose other books include the popular Beach Walks I and II (now out of print) and Scenes from the Beach (still available).

About the author:
A longtime Gulfport, Mississippi resident, George Thatcher has observed the many changes wrought on the beach by both nature and man. Thatcher has long kept a diary of his daily sojourns on the beach. At first, for his own musing. At the suggestion of a good friend, Thatcher submitted some of his writings to a local newspaper, The Sun (Biloxi, Mississippi). To his delight, he was asked to author a column to appear in the newspaper six days a week. The column has been a tremendous success.
