Stephen Thompson

A native of Savannah, Georgia, Stephen Thompson has lived in many places because his father was in the Air Force. The oldest of three brothers, he moved with his family to Japan, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska before moving to Aberdeen, Mississippi in 1965.

One of Stephen Thompson’s earliest memories was standing as a young child in church in Savannah as the song leader’s "helper." Having taught himself to play the guitar, he helped lead the singing in the Aberdeen Church of Christ from junior high through high school. He now enjoys writing songs and performing what he writes; he is thrilled to be the voice of Mr. Lucky in Cat Hymns.

Stephen Thompson worked for Sherwin-Williams for many years, and became an interior designer, subsequently starting his own company, Designer Connection, in 1987. He has taught an adult class in interior design at Itawamba Community College since 1986, and writes a monthly column for the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal.

A long friendship and leaning on each other in times of trouble finally resulted in marriage for Stephen and Patti Thompson. They met when Tupelo Community Theatre underwent a major renovation. Patti was on the Board of Directors and Stephen headed the design team that made the interior selections. And these past four years as a team have not only been happy, but creative and productive as well. Certainly their teamwork on Cat Hymns has been for them a fun and rich blessing.

Stephen Thompson has two daughters, Diandrea and Cayla, who he is proud to say perform in Cat Hymns as Dandie Katt and one of the Wee Little Kittens.

Their seven cats, A.J. (Adolph, Jr.), Krispy Kritter, Sister Very Merry Phyllis, O.J., Mamma Kitty, Taz, and Spike, allow them to share their home in Tupelo.
